A mentor of mine once said something similar to “There’s nothing more rewarding than helping an ordinary horse to become extraordinary”!! And I want to add to this …… Helping Others to do that with THEIR own equine partner is even more rewarding!
Are you interested in competing in Western Dressage or Working Equitation or maybe you just want to help develop your horse or mule into an awesome athlete, but don’t have a road map on how to develop you and your equine partner to successfully learn the movements? How can you learn what steps to take to develop your horse or mule, using sound biomechanics, to be an extraordinary athlete? Can YOU train an ordinary horse to be extraordinary without fully understanding the dressage terms? And most importantly can you do this while strengthening your partnership with your equine and not destroying it with unreasonable demands or misplaced and confused cues??
The good news is…… YES!!! - YOU can train your own horse and or mule to be extraordinary without the confusion while building an amazing partnership.
Developing the equine athlete is a benefit to any horse or mule no matter what discipline you want to ride. The trail horse can benefit and be sound longer and more agile on the trail with dressage work. Dressage work can help your mule or horse use their hind more effectively and have more power. Dressage and biomechanics can help rehab horses and mules that have suffered injuries. Dressage is a bit like gymnastics for the human. Dressage movements done in a biomechanically sound and healthy way are the BEST way to build muscle, endurance, flexibility, and a confident relaxed equine partner. But - most people have questions:
If these are some of your questions… or confusions… This course can help!
I’ve been confused by the jargon, I’ve not been sure when to do what, how and why. And I’ve been that rider that wasn’t sure if I really was doing a shoulder-in and hoping that no one was watching as I struggled through it. And… MORE IMPORTANTLY - I’ve pushed my partnerships with mules and horses too far, being too focused on the wrong things at the wrong time…
I'm Tessa, founder of Cohesive Horsemanship, and I am passionate about build partnerships between equines and humans based on trust, confidence, and respect.
I've competed in Trail, Western Dressage, Working Equitation, and Cowboy Dressage. But it's my experiences working on ranches (building lots of fence) and working cows combined with early Pony Club and French Classical Dressage training and later some 'Natural horsemanship' principles that guide my teaching, learning, and training. The equine is my greatest mentor and I love to share my journey and my learning with you.
As I’ve worked with many students in this situation I’ve built an intensive yet simple coaching plan that will walk you step by step through the terms, the biomechanics, the prerequisite basics, and the why of each more advanced movement. This is the Cohesive Rider Course. I want you to feel these movements in your body and in your mule or horse. I want you to ride away knowing How to do what, when, and why so you can be an extraordinary pair in and out of the competition ring.
“As to methods there may be a million and then some, but principles are few. The man or woman who grasps principles can successfully select his or her own methods. The man or woman who tries methods, ignoring principles, is sure to have trouble.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson (with some gender help from me) This is soooo true with equines!
The Cohesive Rider Course teaches WHY we do what, when, and how. The why is the principle that helps us use the methods appropriately!
LIFETIME ACCESS TO COURSE MATERIALS!
The Cohesive Rider course is a 10 week online course. Students can access the course on a computer or mobile device.
Every week new material is made available. Course materials include written and audio content, videos, and worksheets. Each week will build on the last with exercises to keep developing the rider and equine.
Students have lifetime access to the course materials.
The Interactive course (offered twice a year) includes weekly coaching calls and direct feedback from the Cohesive Horsemanship Team over the 10 weeks.
✅ The program is specifically designed to for the Western Rider who wants to understand and know dressage. . . But it’s absolutely applicable to any type of rider who just wants to build an athletic, connected, and refined equine. It’s designed for riders who want to understand how, when, and why to do what. Note: the journey works just as well for the English rider… 🙂
✅ The course is designed for riders who can at least comfortably ride their horse or mule at the walk and trot.
✅The course is tailored to each rider’s needs and level. Riders who have more experience will be able to dive deeper into the more complicated exercises while the less experienced riders will dive deep into the basics.
✅ Students of the Cohesive Foundations course are well set up with the basics necessary to excel in this course.
✅ Weekly Exercises for the human and the equine
✅ Theory and details about each exercise and movement
✅ Printable PDFs of each lesson so you can save and refer back to them easily
✅ Audio of each lesson so that you can listen to the lesson anywhere anytime.
✅ Videos with examples of the movements at different levels of difficulty
✅ Diagrams of how each movement works and how to ride them.
✅ The Interactive offering includes:
Weekly Coaching calls
Direct feedback from Tessa and the Cohesive Horsemanship team.
✅ An open mind!!!!
✅ An equine with safe and comfortable (for both equine and rider) tack would be best… :) But, in all seriousness, you could take away a ton of information without even having an equine right now.
✅ Some useful but not mandatory tools could be: A PIVO (they are fabulous), an exercise ball, a yoga mat (yes.. We will look at the human body too!), a few cones to mark out exercises in an area, access to a relatively flat safe arena type area for riding.
✅ For the Interactive offering, weekly coaching calls will last up to two hours depending on discussion. These will be recorded and made available to everyone so you can watch them when you can or again, and again and again… 😂
✅ There will be some exercises that would benefit you to do on your horse. Having an hour or more a week to be able to ride would be helpful, but not necessary. You will have lifetime access to the course materials
✅ There will also be exercise for you, the rider, to do. These won’t take more than 15 minutes and can be done anywhere.
The Next Interactive Cohesive Rider Course starts on September 11th!!!

Tessa Nicolet's lessons in audio, video, and written format (including downloadable text and exercise diagrams) were well planned and paced. Each week's lesson and Coaching Call built upon prior weeks with thorough oral, written, and visual explanations of each next step. Tessa demonstrated the exercises on multiple horses that were in different phases of training and experience. I could see what "beginners", like me, would look like and what "well trained" horses will look like. Her Coaching Calls clarified the lessons and allowed for student discussions. In addition to all the effective lesson details, Tessa proved to be a consumate educator - wise, experienced, skilled in multiple equestrian disciplines, AND a great communicator - thoughtful, anticipatory, patient, empathetic, funny, level-headed, supportive, dedicated, and kind.
I will revisit this course through Tessa's Mighty Network platform. I also aspire to take future Cohesive Horsemanship courses and to ride in remote personalized lessons.

This has been the most informative and easy to follow class I have done. Even though I have been riding for a long time, I never really understood some of the terminology and the actual easy steps to perform the maneuvers. I have a 4 year old that is just starting out so this program could not have come at a better time for me. The videos were so clear and Tessa walked me through step by step how to perform each of the exercises. I will be coming back often to refresh what I have learned. So happy I found this class.
